“I don’t know the origin of this recipe but it has been a Headley favorite for years. I’ve never found it in any recipe books, but I have run across Sour Cream Apple Pie. The recipe originally called for a lattice top but Mother would use a generous portion of the sugar and cinnamon on top.” ~ Jean

1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
5 tablespoons flour
1/2 pint (8 ounces) sour cream
7 or 8 peaches, peeled and sliced

Fill an unbaked pie shell with fresh sliced peaches. Blend the rest of the above ingredients and pour over peaches. Cover with pastry strips, lattice fashion. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons sugar mixed with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon. Bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes then at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Let cool before serving.

-”I don’t know how your Grandma was, but the Siewert clan seemed to be a pretty close-mouth group. Joyce is perhaps the best at story telling of the lot.”

-”My grandma, Isabelle, was very tight lipped and proper. It was sometime around the late 60’s… Grandma had the card club over and they were talking about some mutual friend one of them had seen when they were out shopping. The person of discussion was showing failing capacity due to age/illness and had food stains on her blouse. I just remember grandma commenting that she hoped she died before anything like that would ever happen to her….. We’re all a bunch of good german stoics.”

-”The only story about herself (if you can call two sentences a story) was that she had almost lost a finger to a sickle-bar mower when she was much younger. She didn’t talk much more about her kids. She did credit my Dad’s milk route to being the cause of his bad knees and said he worked too hard.”
