I gave each of the Earhart Boys a reprint of the Rodkey family portrait–and you all seemed to really like it!
In addition I got to share some other reprints (from Grandma Rodkey’s scrapbook) that I had made and, for a few moments, was the authority on the family tree! (I worked in small audiences, so it wasn’t too hard…….) I really loved seeing everyone’s excitement and enthusiasm. I just wanted to thank everyone for their interest!

Speaking of Christmas gifts & family history, Dad & Dena got me two books about Youngstown: Youngstown, Oh (Postcard History) and Steeltown USA: Work and Memory in Youngstown. I also recently purchased My Ancestor Was a Coalminer (in hopes that I could learn more about Grandma Rodkey’s grandparents).

As we bow our heads in thankfulness to thee,
The first thoughts in our minds pertain to our own families.
Bless each and every one of them and guide them day by day
As they go routinely through their chores at home, at work, at play.
Bless all those who may be sick, comfort them that mourn,
Instill the love of God in each and every child that’s born,
Visit every table on this glad Thanksgiving Day,
Bind families together as they bow their heads to pray.
Then lead us, your Christian Soldiers, as we celebrate your birth
In the hope that one day soon there may be peace o’er all the earth.
Amen

Painted Cookies were indeed a Christmas tradition that my family continued while we were growing up–and it’s one we’re likely to keep with our own families as well!

By adding licorice flavor to his previously plain tasting chewing gum, Adams created and instant hit with Black Jack Gum. Black Jack Gum sold well right up to the 1970’s. Since then it has been available only on a limited basis every few years.
